I am a huge fan of Jesse Brew‘s work and I recently decided to take a look if he had any new work. To my surprise he had tons of new projects. This is one of the new series’ I ran across called Chairs. Very Mid-Century in its simplicity and all. If you haven’t seen his work before I highly recommend checking it out.

Designspiration P1

So I am starting a simple post series of my inspiration derived from my saves on Designspiration. If you haven’t got a chance to check out the site now is the chance. I was invited earlier this year to be a member of the site and have utilized this wonderful resource quite frequently. So above is just Projection 1 from the JetstreamProjector Designspiration inspiration bank. In these projections I will be posting just small selections of my most recent saves. The Projection 1 feature includes a wonderfully designed poster for the band Vintage Modernists, the essential Dieter Rams’ “10 Principle Principles of Good Design” poster, as well as a beautiful poster of the great Massimo Vignelli’s “5 Phrases to Live By.” Many many more to come.

JAZZDOR 10/11

Stumbled on this new blog today called The New Graphic and through them discovered an incredible design agency call HELMO. I was stunned by all of the quality of their work. The posters above were from 2010 and 2011’s Jazzdor. They both show a wonderful usage of rhythm and pattern in typography which they do a fine job of integrating with the photography. The type placement in both posters really helps the viewer maintain a level of engagement. The Jazzdor 2011 poster has a beautifully inconsistent pattern of typography color over the chopped interval photography that is quite striking as well. I will definitely be posting more work from HELMO in the near future.

Carolina de Bartolo ➡ Explorations in Typography

I am often intrigued by design shown in its simplest, pure form. Typography is no exception. Explorations in Typography: Mastering the Art of Fine Typesetting by Carolina de Bartolo with Erik Spiekermann is a recently published book set to inspire and instruct designers in typesetting. The book is a visual collection of examples that allows designers to learn by looking and is casebound with ultra-thin bookboard, complete with yellow edges. This is indeed a coffee table book any designer should consider.

Explorations in Typography is published by 101 Editions and is available for purchase on explorationsintypography.com, an interactive website that allows users to explore setting type. Options in the toolbox include changing size, leading, alignment, and switching between mock or real text.

Occupy | Greg Eason

Greg Eason’s practice deals with a formal and conceptual dissection of space. His meticulously detailed & characteristically sparse drawings and paintings isolate and monumentalise narrative fragments and translate this into a microscopic frame.

It is incredible how much beauty can be created using such minimal compositions.  It’s designs like these where I forget that I am looking at a 2 dimensional surface. Greg Eason does a nice job creating another layer/dimension to his work orchestrating elements to create illusions using beautiful subtleties that really enhance his work make the pieces come to life. I almost forgot to mention these are pencil on paper. You can purchase his prints here.

Gottschalk + Ash Design

Here are some really nice pieces by Gottschalk + Ash who I previously introduced onto the blog a few posts ago. Once again, I am impressed by their extremely dynamic compositions. What we have here is a severe case of Swiss precision! Check out my previous post on the Galileo Poster.
